My name is Bethany and the proud sole owner of Madeline Jean Antiques & Restoration, LLC. I'm even more proud to be the mother of two fantastic kids; Luke & Madeline. I started this small business out of my passion to see the potential beauty in most anything and my love for all things antique, vintage, junky, and rusty.
My tagline is RESCUE, REVITALIZE, RESELL. I rescue old unwanted furniture, jazz it up & then resell my furniture creations. I also offer custom work to those seeking a new look for their outdated furniture. I'm a hard working mom that manages this small business and all the facets from marketing, loading/unloading furniture, to the refinishing and filming/editing these tutorials. It may be stressful at times but I love this little business I've created. Thank you so much for visiting. I hope you enjoy my channel and our little dogs Biscuit & Bacon!

I love DIY paint!
Thank you. Your blending tips is really helping me to blend our bedroom dresser n chester drawers. Thank you
Hi. Thanks so much for all your information. I’m not new to furniture refurbishing but I’m new to shellac! I am doing a kitchen table for my daughter and I paint and I painted the chairs with a primer and paint spray paint. I’m wondering if I should shellac the chairs before I seal them with polyurethane?
You want to use shellac BEFORE you paint. The order is shellac (2 coats), paint then seal.
Ugh. I used krud kutter and did two layers of shellac on my piece and painted light pink and then polycrylic and it still yellowed. 😞
Oh noooooo!!!! Hmmmm what type of wood? Do you happen to know? What kind of paint? Trying to get to the bottom of why it yellowed.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 thank you for responding! I just came across your channel while searching how to fix this issue! I used Krylon chalk paint. I think it’s a cherry wood possibly. I’m new to this, so I’m learning as I’m going. I’d post pics to show you, but UA-cam doesn’t have that option. My question now would be, if you do not mind answering, should I just shellac again over the spots that have tan bleed through and then paint back over those spots? I even thought about getting the kilz 123. I’m not sure what to do. 😭😭 It’s very stressful as I’m painting several pieces at a time.
Ha Ha Thanks
I'm cleaning my brass kitchen cabinet handles. I'll take your advice. Thank you!❤❤❤
I hope it works out for you! Best of luck!
This is exactly what I’m looking for. I have a set of doors that I’m going to use to enter my laundry room/pantry and I want this look. I’m not sure what type of wood they are. Not as grainy as oak. I think they may be cypress. I can’t wait to try this!
How do you get the stain to stick over wax?
Great video!! Thank you for the tips! 😊
How did you apply the wallpaper?
Get a life.
Bathe in a stream that doesn't have a copper pipe feeding it. Or get a filter for unwanted minerals in your water.... simple. Easy... and not as expensive as tattoos or hair dye. 🤔
Hahahaha!!!!
It works fine on pine
Congratulations on your new first house! I am watching this video in June, 2024 but found your wonderful channel in 2019. That, according to my DIY file on my laptop. It makes me happy to see someone succeed in a "hobby" turned "business". You are a really good teacher. I hope you have many happy years in your new home and BRAVA, BRAVA, BRAVA.
Awesome Bethany! Sorry I called you Madeline 🤦♂
No worries! I get that all the time! Madeline is my daughter.
I think I'll try this. I hate buying dishwasher tablets especially with the plastic coating!
I’m kicking myself that I didn’t start making my own earlier. This is a great recipe!
Does this process take off old paint too???
It does not.
Thanks Bethany. I've been making my own laundry soap for about 7 or 8 years now. I add a little bit of lavender essential oil at the end for a little bit of disinfectant quality, and a good smell. Would love your disinfectant recipe.
Well you will have to try making your own dishwasher detergent now too! That’s awesome you already make your own laundry detergent. I’ll list my disinfectant recipe in another comment for you.
I place a ball jar full of white vinegar and citrus scraps like lemons and oranges on my window sill for two weeks. Then I drain the vinegar (without the citrus scraps) and put 1 part vinegar solution and 1 part rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. That’s it!
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it!
Your work is incredible 😲 ❤
Thank you so much 😀
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 Absolutely
Thank you so so much . I have been trying to know what to get for months now and now I'm ready so thank you
You are so welcome! I’m glad the video helped you with your new adventure diving into refinishing furniture!

What is a booty over sponge brush?
Where did you get your overalls!? 💕
I will pick out my puzzles more carefully next time. I bought a beautiful Disney puzzle but it has a very repetitive frame in the image and it is going to be a bear to figure out !
Those are the worst! Where the frame is repetitive. Best of luck with it!
I definitely want to try this. I need some help: I have a 2,000 piece puzzle and I glued it in sections and then assembled the entire puzzle. and some of the sections are warped and I have it under some encyclopedia but they're still warped and it's time to glue it. If I put some parchment paper or wax paper on it after gluing it to keep it flat and then put books on it, will the parchment paper stick in the modge podge? Thank you for your time.
The parchment paper should NOT stick to the mod podge.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 thank you so much!
Do you apply a poly acrylic finish coat over the glaze to protect it?
I do not apply polycrylic over the glaze.
What type of brushes did you use? Stainless steel, carbon steel, brass, plastic bristle brush or something else?
the thing I honestly love about it the most is the shape of it on wheels. With the normal shopvac being a narrow top heavy round object, any time I tried rolling it around connected to something it always wanted to tip over.
I totally agree! The weight is distributed evenly on the dust extractor. You pull it towards you and it comes over, no tipping like a Shop Vac.
I'd LOVE to see how you finished this piece. I have a Mahogany venire piece that I'm going to start very soon. My plan is to have natural top with a beige painted base w/natural door fronts.
I'm still working on it! *gasp* *embarrassed* Between my furniture business, real estate business and gardening I've been up to my neck in projects. When I finish it I'll post it on my business Facebook or Instagram. Both links to those profiles are below.
I have April 30 1942
I love it and it really works. I have to buy more already after 30 minutes. It's mind-blowing
I always have furniture salve on hand. I've used it to refresh so many things besides wood. Get their short handle furniture salve brush. GAME CHANGER for me with applying it. I used to use a rag or a chip chip brush....both weren't the best options. Definitely get their brush.
What kind of brush are you using, is that a wire brush? Will it scratch the brass?
Annoying lady
A little Talcum powder on hands rubbed together works to keep skin oils off the gold leaf.A comb used to comb through hair to charge it , will pick up the leaf with static making it easy to lift and place.
This would have been nice to know when I poured half the can on the top of a dresser I did and I immediately had to remove it when it started stripping the paint right off😂
Me encantó el tutorial, pero con qué otro tipo de pintura puedo reemplazar por la que mencionas, ya que son muy costosas para mí vivo en México Gracias
Dont feel bad about using that according hose and fighting the leaks we did the same thing in our kitchen remodel nightmare watching your channel because I want to use a antique dresser as a vanity in my half bathroom
Is this supposed to be an all-in-one paint? If so do you have any updates about the durability? Ty for your videos, love them! ❤
Do you need to remove the original stain and finish first or could I just apply it to the furniture without any removal?
I like the last look. Please let me know what products were used. Thank you, Cheryl
I was literally JUST singing that song the other day around my younger co workers and I said "god i'm showing my age: : )
Awesome presentation on how to use sanders and the sand paper grid! Appreciate this!
Buy this product. It works has no kdors and makes plastic look brand new
whoa my childhood fantasy is coming to life with this babe and that outfit. What a smokeshow. phew....
How can I clean brass ornaments without using BRASO.
Thank you so much for this video. I just bought some antique oval brass door knobs for my 1942 bungalow. And man, they went from a dark crust of brown and green to a brilliant shine of true brass. I can't wait to install them. 🥰
Can you show me a video on how to do this on laminate
It looks like a great sander, but uh, 16 minutes is really a lot of time just to sand the top part of that piece of furniture, no? A bigger random orbital sander should take around 5 minutes. It's good that you mention it though. It's useful information.
You’re my favorite furniture flipper and teacher. Very relatable, (love the mom robe!), knowledgeable, and you make all of your tutorials easy to understand. It makes me excited to try the techniques I learn from you! Thanks so much!
You can buy surf prep pads for orbital sanders also! Would you recommend a orbital or rectangular sander for the moldings and edges?
